Job Description:

WFMJ Special Projects Director (NBC/CW), Youngstown, Ohio

Ready to manage and develop staff members as WFMJ-TV aggressively pursues special projects?  From developing, training and mentoring reporters to evaluating final products, the Special Projects Director will manage the entire process.  At WFMJ, the Special Projects Director is a management role and the Special Projects Director is hands-on in the formulation and effectuating of WFMJ management policy.  With substantial discretion to determine WFMJ’s special projects direction (including situations that may involve the exercise of your best judgment in determining and applying WFMJ policy), the Special Projects Director will also provide critical, key input and help in developing new franchises for special projects to be distributed on multiple platforms, all in a manner that is consistent with and support WFMJ’s community commitment.  As one example, you may find yourself from start to finish managing and supervising a brand new broadcast.  In this unique management position with a top Ohio TV station you would develop, manage and supervise a team of correspondents and videographers to create a show that goes in depth to report on the good and not-so-good things happening in the community.  You’ll be the manager who is completely in charge of the production.  You will develop story ideas, select and assign reporters to work on the special project stories you and the senior News department management of WFMJ decide to pursue, guiding them through their reporting process, fact checking their work for accuracy, sending them back to do better, approving the final script and developing staff members in other key areas you assign.  You may also have other exciting opportunities to contribute to WFMJ’s success.  Youngstown, Ohio is a market on the move.  We’ve re-invented ourselves as an urban, foodie, tech corridor with a low cost of living, great bike paths and parks, microbreweries, summer festivals galore and really, really nice people.  Don’t let the market size fool you.  WFMJ is a first-class station that will pay competitively for good talent.  Plus, we’re locally owned so we treat our employees like family.  Ask around.  We’re proud of our products(s) and our rep.  If you are interested in this important management role, send your resume, reel and cover email to:  Mona Alexander, WFMJ News Director, mona@wfmj.com EOE.
