D.C. Witness, a website that has brought unprecedented transparency to the Washington, DC criminal justice system, is starting a Baltimore Witness website. We are looking for an Editor to
run this new website, which will address violent crime while also working with Baltimore’s
The Editor in this role will be responsible for leading a team of students and young
professionals, teaching them about reporting through process journalism. The Editor will also be
responsible for the quality of the content on the site and work to cultivate relationships throughout Baltimore.

? Editing, publishing and scheduling all content on the Baltimore Witness website
? Oversight of database management and maintenance
? Oversee production of bi-monthly newsletter
? Manage newsroom
? Train interns and assistant editors
The person in this position will have a chance to make a difference by bringing transparency
and actionable data on which meaningful criminal justice reform can be based.
Baltimore Witness has been designed to track, report on and gather the data related to crimes
starting with homicides and non-fatal shootings.
Baltimore Witness will also gather all public information, and, by placing trained reporters in
courtrooms, verify and enhance that data. News from the site and database will provide support
to researchers and policymakers.
Baltimore Witness and its sister site, D.C. Witness, are non-partisan and non-advocacy. The
sites report on every development on every case without offering opinions by tracking data on
crime reduction policies and provide basic data analysis without offering conclusions.
We are looking for that right person to be part of something new and join a small, tightknit
team, implementing our proven methodology. The editor will report to the editor-inchief and publisher.
? Deep knowledge of Baltimore
? Interest in criminal justice
? 5-6 years of experience in journalism, including crime reporting
? Editing/newsroom management experience
? Interest/experience in teaching
