News Director
Wyoming’s only community radio station has an immediate opening for a dynamic news director. This newsroom leader will nourish KHOL’s burgeoning news department in beautiful Jackson, Wyoming. They will oversee a daily newscast, report radio spots, in-depth features and web stories, and produce immersive interviews and podcasts. They also will direct and edit all stories produced by KHOL’s staff reporter and freelancers.
Minimum Job Requirements
Five years of journalism experience and a bachelor’s degree in journalism, or an equivalent combination of journalism work experience and schooling
Skills, Responsibilities and Knowledge
- Exhibit excellent leadership skills and provide mentorship to reporters
- Make sound news judgments under tight deadlines
- Research and report a variety of news stories in multiple mediums, from digital to audio
- Understand and practice the principles of ethical journalism
- Cultivate strong relationships with diverse sources
- Knowledge of news and public affairs radio production
- Cross-pollinate content and repackage stories for different mediums
- Understand FCC laws, regulations, conventions and protocols relating to the delivery of news and public affairs content
- Fluency in Adobe Audition or similar audio software
Other Responsibilities
- Work closely with executive director to guide the sound of the station and shape programming
- Act as a media and community liaison, representing KHOL at political forums, community events and more
- Edit and manage website content, including arts and culture stories
- Use social media channels to elevate KHOL coverage and drive station messaging
