Executive Producer, WNYC Studios

WNYC and The Atlantic are seeking an Executive Producer for a new weekly show. The Executive Producer will partner with the Editor to develop and produce the show, focusing on operations, strategies for growth, collaboration, and overall excellence.

The Executive Producer works closely with the team — and with colleagues at The Atlantic — to craft narrative, ideas-driven audio journalism on a weekly basis and to maximize that work’s impact and reach. 

The Executive Producer creates an environment in which great journalism can happen and the people who make that journalism can thrive.  This position reports to the Vice President of Original Content at WNYC.

Job responsibilities include:

  • Manage the day-to-day work of production to produce a highly-produced episode weekly (running the ship and managing all production staff).

  • Lead communication with staff and other teams around scheduling, deadlines, and publishing decisions

  • Manage the show’s budget, in collaboration with Atlantic Editor

  • Supervise the show’s WNYC staff, evaluating the staff members’ performance and advancing their professional development

  • Coordinate with marketing, sponsorship, publicity and live events teams at WNYC and The Atlantic to advance the show’s mission

  • Collaborate with the Editor on editorial decisions, reporting plans, structuring and editing of script

  • Produce and report stories, as time allows

Qualifications include:

  • At least five years of journalism experience

  • At least two years experience producing narrative journalism podcasts

  • Proven track record of being a strong leader who embodies the mission and values of NYPR and The Atlantic

  • Fearless pursuit of original, enterprising stories

  • Strong writing and editing skills

  • Familiarity with audio editing software, such as ProTools

  • Proven ability to mentor and inspire a staff

  • Impeccable attention to detail, ability to organize a busy calendar and willingness to work long hours when necessary

  • The intellectual and emotional depth, self-confidence and interpersonal skills to work effectively and/or interact with the staff, executives at NYPR and The Atlantic, colleagues, partners and sources.
