Cambridge, Mass., Oakland, Calif., and Chicago, Ill. offices also considered

Are you a communications strategist who wants to work on a campaign to make the world a better place? Do you have an interest in science and a passion for global security? Are you as comfortable writing press releases and pitching news stories, as you are building buzz on twitter or developing visual stories that can catch fire online? If so, you’re invited to join the media team at the Union of Concerned Scientists for a two-year position embedded in our campaign work, with focus on our campaign to reduce the risk of nuclear war. The communications officer will work in a fast-paced environment to raise awareness among reporters, influencers, decisionmakers and target public audiences. Qualifications and Experience
Position requires a minimum of five to seven years’ experience in media relations or journalism. Excellent writing and communication skill required. Experience writing press releases, op-eds, and other press materials. Proven ability to identify and exploit media opportunities and develop messages and sound bites. Demonstrated experience in cross-channel communications strategy in service of an advocacy campaign strongly preferred.
Little or no exertion required. May spend extended periods at computer. Clear speech required.
Some travel required.

At UCS, comparable training and/or experience can be substituted for degrees when appropriate.
