The Capital Times (captimes.com), digital-first media enterprise in Madison, Wisconsin, seeks a team-oriented journalist who is smart, curious and flexible to cover our growing and changing city.
The ideal candidate should be flexible and interested in topics connected to the Madison economy, such as development, transportation, employment and business. We’re looking for a reporter who can develop enterprise stories, profiles, news analysis pieces and multimedia projects.
The job requires a digital-first, new media mindset. While applicants must have proven writing skills, fluency with social media and experience using data to tell important and unexpected stories are critical. In addition, our newsroom has a strong commitment to covering issues of race in the community, and is seeking someone who will find such stories engaging and valuable.
Madison is a rapidly growing and changing city, strongly influenced by the University of Wisconsin, a leading research university. It features a vibrant downtown, distinctive neighborhoods, extensive bike paths, excellent restaurants and a politically active citizenry.
While we continue to publish a widely distributed weekly tabloid, our focus and future is digital and the spirit of innovation that comes with it. We have dramatically grown our digital audience and host monthly community events and an annual festival to spark discussion and connect with readers.
A bachelor’s degree in journalism or a related field is preferred.
To apply, please submit a resume, cover letter and five examples of your work to Cap Times City Editor Katie Dean at firstname.lastname@example.org by Aug. 16.
