CONTINUING NON-TENURE TRACK POSITION IN JOURNALISM AT VILLANOVA UNIVERSITY

The Department of Communication at Villanova University seeks applicants for a continuing, non-tenure track position in Journalism, at the rank of Instructor (M.A.) or Assistant Teaching Professor (Ph.D.), to begin Fall 2020. This position is renewable and is eligible for Villanova’s Continuing Non-Tenure Track Promotion Policy.

With one of the largest undergraduate majors in the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences, the Communication Department offers coursework leading to the B.A. in Communication with opportunities to specialize in eight different areas of the discipline, including Journalism. In addition, the Department supports a thriving M.A. program in Communication, including a Journalism and New Media track. Our faculty prides itself on excellence in teaching and research and seeks to cultivate a supportive, collegial work environment. Basic requirements:

  • M.A. in Journalism preferred, M.A. in Communication with a journalism emphasis strongly considered; earned doctorate in related area is a favorable supplemental consideration.

Skills:
Candidates must have successful, content area relevant, college-level teaching experience and demonstrated expertise in journalism.

The position will require teaching undergraduate, and possibly graduate, courses on a 4-4 teaching load. Our new colleague will teach courses within our Journalism specialization, including but not limited to Introduction to Journalism and Multimedia Journalism. Additionally, the successful candidate may teach courses in our Journalism and New Media Graduate Certificate Program. Opportunities will be available to teach and develop other courses in the candidate’s area of expertise.

Service responsibilities will include student advising and mentoring, as well as curriculum development and assessment. Our new colleague will also be encouraged to serve as faculty advisor to our student-run media (The Villanovan, VTV, and/or WXVU).
