Job Description:

The Orlando Sentinel is seeking an experienced reporter to join its Justice & Safety team. The position entails covering criminal justice agencies in Osceola County, one of Central Florida’s most dynamic regions. Osceola is projected to double in population over the coming decade, with more than 75 percent of that growth expected in the Hispanic community – as the Sheriff’s Office is struggling with high staff turnover and a lack of bilingual deputies. This job will include in-depth watchdog coverage of that agency and police departments in Kissimmee and St. Cloud, with a focus on how those agencies are adapting to rapid growth and demographic change – all in an area that draws millions of visitors and billions of dollars in tourism revenue annually, thanks to its proximity to Disney and other area theme parks. Candidates must be as comfortable covering breaking news on deadline with a digital focus as they are delving deep into public records, developing sources and analyzing data to identify trends. Social media skills are required, as is a college degree. Spanish-language proficiency is preferred. This is a full-time position with a competitive salary and benefits. Send resume and clips to lcianci@orlandosentinel.com
