Looking to hone your journalism skills at a dynamic and mission-driven education news site in the country’s biggest media market? Then you should apply for The 74’s paid winter editorial fellowship.
The position will give you extensive backgrounding in today’s education storylines and policy debates, as well as experience researching, reporting and writing. The fellow will also be a key point person on our reader engagement team, gaining web production, multimedia and social media skills, for a daily audience of 200,000 followers.
The position is based out of our New York City office, and runs anywhere from three to 12 months (based on preference, qualifications and current staffing). Start date can range anywhere from Jan. 1 to March 15.
Our editorial fellows are fully involved members of the newsroom, given the opportunity to pitch news and enterprise stories, collaborate with more experienced reporters, work with talented videographers and receive one-on-one editing and mentoring from award-winning editors. In short, you will emerge a stronger digital reporter with a bevy of compelling clips.
Our fellows also assist with special projects — think everything from breaking news to event planning to book publishing — and work with our reader engagement team to optimize our article layouts for reader retention, our multimedia content for impact and our social media pages for sharing.
While New York-based, our fellow will also have the opportunity to work with our teams in Los Angeles and Washington, D.C.
