The newsday.com assistant web producer helps run the main landing page of our website, mobile site and app, and creates digital content, with a focus on diverse community news stories that serve our Long Island audience. This is a position that requires newsroom experience, strong news judgment and organizational skills.
-Helping program the homepage of newsday.com, our mobile site and app
-Assisting on breaking news coverage
-Telling stories about Long Islanders through school and community events such as proms, polar plunges, etc.
-Creating series and interactive projects on topics such as diverse communities and LI history
-Working on deadline to create photo galleries and other multimedia extras
-Tracking real-time metrics and using audience data to inform our coverage
-Assigning and supervising the work of interns

-Is a good writer and able to use photos, video and social media to help tell stories

-Well-rounded and follows the latest News, Sports, Entertainment and Long Island stories
-Adept at juggling a variety of tasks and is calm under pressure in breaking news situations
-Interested in learning how to use databases to inform stories
-Able to demonstrate strong communication skills with colleagues throughout the newsroom
Experience and qualifications:
-Bachelor's degree and at least one year of newsroom web publishing experience.
-Basic HTML, photo editing skills and experience working with video.
-Reliable transportation to and from Newsday’s suburban Melville office.
-This position requires working one weekend day.
-The person in this position needs to occasionally move about the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.
-Ability to utilize a computer keyboard, computer monitor, and telephone for prolonged periods of time.
