Job Description:

The Editorial Resources Department is responsible for effectively conveying WGBH’s mission and value to multiple audiences, and building support for its leadership, programs and activities through strategic communications efforts.

 

This senior management position provides vision and execution for distinctive communications that advance WGBH’s core objectives and effectively position the institution and its leadership. Reporting to the Vice President for Communications and Government Relations, the Director of Editorial Resources is responsible for creating and managing a variety of exceptional communications that promote WGBH as an organization worthy of support from its many constituents, including: donors, boards, members, public media audiences, and the general public. The department provides in-house editorial services generating a variety of print materials and publications, e-communications, remarks and speeches, digital/online communications and related writing and editing projects. 

Essential Functions: 

Develop exceptional communications that build visibility for WGBH's mission, programs and leadership 

Provide direction and management of original editorial materials. Conceptualizes, writes, edits, and proofreads a wide range of materials for WGBH’s many platforms 

Partner on the creative and technical execution of materials, including annual report, major gifts communications, brochures, bios, executive remarks 

Assure client satisfaction and adherence to deadlines and budgets. 

Work closely with executive leadership and development division 

Work collaboratively with colleagues across multiple departments including donor and board relations, design, membership, marketing and creative 

Provide supervision, direction and editorial guidance to department staff 

Maintains communications style guide and reinforces institutional editorial standards



Skills:
Minimum of 10 years professional experience in communications

Significant and demonstrated professional writing, editing and proofreading experience

Writes effectively with speed and accuracy, versatile in style and voice, and with exceptional command of grammar

Demonstrated success in managing major strategic projects

Demonstrated experience managing and developing team of communications professionals

Ability to identify and execute compelling stories that inspire audiences to engage with and support WGBH

Ability to collaborate with colleagues across complex institution

Able to communicate copy edits and comments effectively, and accept edits and feedback from others with openness

Flexible thinker, able to effectively juggle multiple assignments

Strong presentation, interpersonal and problem-solving skills

Understanding of print and interactive design and copywriting

Familiarity with public broadcasting a plus.

Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism or related field required.
