Assistant Literary Editor
The Nation, the weekly magazine and website of politics and culture, seeks an Assistant Literary Editor. Candidates should have at least 1 to 2 years of experience working in journalism, and they should be well read in contemporary politics and literature as well as have interests in history, political thought, music, film, and TV. The editor will assist the literary editor with the magazine's weekly print production, be responsible for a variety of other editorial and administrative tasks relating to the magazine's Books & the Arts section and culture vertical, and edit essays, cultural comments, and reviews for the web. These assignments will range from music and TV to literature and the history of ideas, and candidates will ideally have some assigning experience. Applicants must be based in New York City, or willing to relocate or commute daily. The office is small and collegial, and collaborating with other editors is prized. Starting salary is between $47,000 and $64,000, depending on experience.
