The New Republic is looking for a creative, witty, and experienced Social Media Editor to join our team: https://tnr.bamboohr.com/jobs/view.php?id=63
The ideal candidate is a genuine newshound—determined by how many breaking-news notifications you subscribe to—and a disciplined social media writer who understands the potential hazards in distributing bite-sized news at a high speed. Excited to experiment with new social platforms and master those that prove worthwhile, the candidate understands the tone and approaches necessary to build and maintain communities among our readers. She or he must have experience using social media in editorial capacities, and a history of keeping an eye on emerging digital trends and tools.
This position is responsible for scheduling posts, drafting snappy and effective copy, and tracking key analytics on a consistent basis. The candidate must be a strategic thinker who uses real-time analytics and trending conversations to better showcase TNR’s recent and archival work. Bonus points if you’re a pro at using Photoshop to create killer art for social media.
This is a full-time position based in New York City. The position reports to the Senior Engagement Editor and manages one intern. Applicants should have at least two years of relevant experience.
To apply, please submit your résumé, samples of your social media work (send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org with links to your samples; include your full name in the subject line), and a cover letter detailing your qualifications for the position. While your cover letter should tell us why you're the perfect candidate, it should also detail the changes you would make to our social media presence, in voice and strategy, during your first 30 days on the job. Applications submitted without a cover letter and samples will not be considered. The position is open until filled. No phone calls or snail mail, please.
Only applications submitted via Bamboo will be considered: https://tnr.bamboohr.com/jobs/view.php?id=63
The position includes a competitive salary and benefits. Diversity is important to us in everything we do. We encourage applicants of all ages, genders, sexual orientations, races, and ethnicities.
