The Chronicle of Higher Education is seeking smart, digitally savvy breaking-news reporters to join our award-winning newsroom.
The Chronicle is the premier source for news and information about higher education, and you'll join a growing team that produces insightful breaking-news coverage for a national audience. We're looking for a talented individual who demonstrates strong news judgment and thrives on deadline. The right person is self-motivated and proactive, flexible, comfortable with change, and a team player who enjoys collaborating with others and running with projects.
You’ll provide engaged, in-the-moment, and analytical coverage of developing news, shedding light on campus events and trends, evolutions in public policy, and how institutions grapple with concerns about diversity, inclusion, and campus climates, among other topics.
You’ll devise and execute strategies to help The Chronicle “own” important stories in the first news cycle — on chronicle.com, through social media, and in The Daily Briefing, a morning newsletter for academic decision-makers with more than 40,000 subscribers. As a point person for that newsletter, you’ll collaborate with Chronicle reporters and editors and interact with readers.
The ideal candidate is a newshound and storyteller who has worked for a news organization for a couple of years and thrives in a fast-paced environment. You’ll be immersed in the world of digital journalism. You’ll view social media as essential to helping news and analysis find an audience. You’re comfortable with web journalism tools, and you’re able to find your way around WordPress and other content-management systems.
If the above information describes you, and this sounds like the kind of place you want to make your mark, send a cover letter, résumé, and five clips to email@example.com.
